      Music education is extremely important to us at Robb’s Boulder Music, and we’re pleased to offer an array of experiences here at the store in order to feed the talents of our customers. Our state of the art teaching studios offer a fantastic teaching environment for several of Boulder’s best instructors. We offer several on-site options for private instruction on guitar, piano, voice, drums, and bass guitar. We also have recommendations for a few off-site instructors offering lessons on guitar, mandolin, and banjo. All of our in-house teachers hold various certifications for their area of expertise, and we feel confident they offer the very best private instruction that the Boulder area has to offer.

Guitar Instructors

Tom Wasinger
   
  Tom Wasinger is a composer, arranger, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and teacher based in Boulder, CO. Tom has received three GRAMMY AWARDS as producer of the Best Native American Music Album in 2003, 2007 and 2009. Tom also produced two other GRAMMY nominated records, one in 2001, and another in 2005. Tom has performed live in concert halls around the world from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall in Instanbul, Turkey. David McGillicuddy
 
    David McGillicuddy has been playing guitar since 1982 and teaching since 1995. David stresses teaching music fundamentals, including reading, ear training, technique, theory, and analysis, in the context of the student's favorite styles, be it Rock, Blues, Punk, Jazz, Beginning Classical, Funk, Ska, or Reggae. He has studied music at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and performed with a variety of original and cover bands around the San Francisco Bay Area. Performance highlights include playing in the High School All Stars at the Monterey Jazz Festival and in a tour of Japan in 1987, and sharing stages with bands like the Wailers, No Doubt, Carlos Santana, Blues Traveler, and Los Lobos. Robb Boswell (Off-Site Lessons)
 Since graduating the Musicians Institute (GIT) Hollywood, California in 1989 Robb has taught hundreds of students from beginners to professionals in a variety of styles. "In short it comes down to this: (1) play the music you love with heart and soul, (2) learn how to learn on your own, and (3) when you feel called to, dip into the ocean of improvisation, songwriting, and theory, to experience the thrill of expressing your own creative voice. First lesson is half price!" Jullien McVean
   
  Jullien is an enthusiastic teacher of all genres of music, ranging from Rock, Reggae, Blues, Jazz, Classical, and even Heavy Metal. Andrew Schiller
   
  Andy Schiller is currently earning his Master's Degree in Classical Guitar from the University of Denver. Andy has released 3 CD's of original music. He has also performed in Carnegie Hall, the Aspen Music Festival, the Hawaii Music Festival, the Rome Festival Orchestra, as well as the Adrian Symphony Orchestra. Andy teaches all styles and all levels, and takes students as young as 5 years old. Andy enjoys teaching finger-picking, music theory, sight reading, songwriting, and rock improvisation. Allan Guitar
     Allan has been teaching guitar for over 40 years. He teaches a wide variety of styles, including folk, finger picking, blues and swing.  Allan coaches people wanting to do performance, lead sing-a-longs, jamming and or forming a band.  He incorporates music theory, scales and note reading in his lesson as well as teaches improvisation with the use of band back up CD s.  Allan likes teaching all levels from beginners to advanced players, from 7 years old to adult.   Robb holds a music degree from Oakland University where he played in the Jazz Band and studied Classical Guitar. He teaches Blues, Jazz, Classical, Rock, and finger-picking.  Peter Hennig
     "Hello, all future and present bass players. I have been playing bass professionally for 35 years and teaching at Robb's for over 20. In my lessons, students learn how to play the music they listen to every day. I encourage proper form and technique and, if they're so inclined, studying valuable areas like ear training, sight reading and music theory. I welcome all levels of ability; from total beginners to more advanced players looking for help in specific areas. Banjo Instructors

Robby Loeb - (Off-Site Lessons)
Robby began teaching banjo in Southern California in 1998. He mainly teaches the Earl Scruggs 3-finger Bluegrass banjo method, which involves learning particular roll patterns and back-up rhythm styles. He enjoys teaching students traditional Bluegrass songs as well as helping students to learn and develop their own style. He has studied under banjo legend Alan Munde at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas as well as taken courses in guitar, Bluegrass history, audio engineering, and ensemble classes. Piano/Keyboard Instructors

David Whiteing
  
   David is an accomplished Jazz/Popular piano player who has been teaching piano/keyboard since the 1980s. Aside from teaching privately, he has also taught keyboard in the evenings for about ten years with Front Range Community College. He has a B.A degree from Stanford University, and a MBA from the University of Northern Colorado. He studied with the great Denver Jazz player, Ted Alexander, who along with Oscar Peterson, was a student of the late but renowned Jazz Instructor, Lyle Spud Murphy. David uses their teaching methods, along with his own, which he has acquired over the years and which has proven to be most successful. He is currently accepting students of all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced, who are looking forward to having fun, while learning quickly and easily to play, harmonize, and improvise on standard tunes. Bill Brennan

Tim Short
   
  Tim taught at Colorado University in Boulder as Applied Music Lecturer for Drum-set and is a recent Masters Graduate in Percussion from CU Boulder. Along with mentoring at schools all across Colorado, he loves playing all sorts of drum-set gigs from show tunes to rock venues to smaller jazz combos. He teaches beginning to advanced rock/funk and snare drum techniques and up to intermediate Brazilian, Afro/Cuban, Samba and Jazz styles. Chris Field (Off-Site Lessons)
 
    Chris Field is a professional violinist/fiddler who has been teaching in Boulder since 1994. Some of the groups he has performed with include The Boulder Philharmonic, Boulder Bach Festival, The Anasazi String Quartet, The Potcheen Folk Band, Leftover Salmon, Galactic, Stephen Allen Davis, Gail Muldrow, Cecil"P-Nut Daniels, Judy Collins, Outformation, One Time, Polytoxic, and many others. Chris has a degree in music from Ithaca College in N.Y. where he studied classical and jazz violin. Among the styles he teaches are bluegrass, celtic, blues, jazz, classical, klezmer, rock, as well as improvisation and theory. Christina Olin (Off and On-Site Lessons)
 
    Having recently relocated from New York, singer/songwriter Christina Olin has been performing professionally in the US and Brazil since 1990 and teaching since 1996. Her teaching style focuses on achieving the sound and tone that you want by using proper technique to protect the voice. She studied theory and ear training at Mannes Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. She has also studied voice with Joshua Greene of the Metropolitan Opera, Sara Krieger of New York Voices and Gene Marie Callahan Kern of the Chicago Lyric Opera.
   With an extensive performance history, Christina has played everything from Soul, Jazz and Americana to Brazilian Samba. Whether fronting her own band or collaborating with others, she has shared the stage and studio with artists such as Vinicius Cantuaria, Gretchen Wilson, Matt Smith, Jonathan Kreisberg, Ben E. King, and Brad Paisley, among others.
